Meets with elected officials to discuss town issues

Hyannis Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito joined Representative Crocker on Friday, July 13th in Hyannis to meet with officials from the town of Barnstable to discuss issues pertinent to Barnstable. Alongside Representative Crocker was Town Manager Mark Ells, Assistant Town Manager Andy Clyburn, Town Council President Eric Steinhilber, and State Representative Randy Hunt.

The discussion focused on the town’s environmental damages from this year’s numerous severe winter storms and the need for additional funding for a Climate Resiliency Center was highlighted. Representative Crocker was able to secure $225,000 worth of funding for a study and design plan for the Center in the House’s economic development bill, but more funding is needed for the eventual construction of the Center. In addition, the area’s social service agencies were discussed at length to ensure that their locations and services offered are meeting the needs of the people of Barnstable.

Following the Town Hall meeting, the Lieutenant Governor accompanied Representative Crocker on a tour of Main Street Hyannis, where they stopped and spoke with Barnstable patrolmen and community officers, as well as chatted with tourists on the Cape Cod Duckmobile. In addition, the Lieutenant Governor and Representative Crocker visited a few local small businesses, including the Original Gourmet Brunch and Smith Family Popcorn.
