Rep. Crocker and Barnstable Youth Advisory Commission Host Successful Blood Drive
OSTERVILLE – Representative Will Crocker (R-Centerville) and the Barnstable Youth Advisory Commission in partnership with the American Red Cross of Massachusetts hosted a successful blood drive on Friday May 29th, 2020 at the Osterville Village Library.
"This blood drive was a tremendous success and the credit has to go to the members of Barnstable Youth Advisory Commission,” said Representative Crocker. “They were invested from the start in making it a successful event. Ultimately, over one hundred people can benefit from the blood collected last week and comes at a time when collections are extremely low."
Members of the Barnstable Youth Advisory Commission set a goal of twenty-five donors, but through social media and personal networking they were able to recruit thirty-five donors, resulting in thirty-five pints of donated blood. This blood will help a total of 105 families. Of the thirty-five donors, eight were first time donors. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a critical need for blood donation. The donations made during the Cape Cod Community Blood Drive at the Osterville Village Library will truly go a long way in helping those in need.
The Barnstable Youth Advisory Commission was founded by Representative Crocker in 2019 and is an organization made up of students from public and private high schools within the Second Barnstable District to foster civic engagement and address local issues.
Representative Crocker offers his sincerest thanks to the Osterville Village Library and Executive Director Cyndy Cotton for hosting the blood drive.
